I am fortunate to have a bunch of younger siblings. My last 3 siblings are the twins and my baby brother. The twins are 4 and my baby brother is 1 year +.
I say fortunate because although it can be very difficult to look after them. They keep my heart childlike. By always reminding me to see the world through their own eyes. For that I am truly blessed and grateful.
The bible says that we cannot come into the kingdom of God unless we humble ourselves and become like children (Matthew 18 vs 3-4 & 19 vs 14). To be honest I never really fully understood this verse until this happened to me over the summer break.
Like any other good day the twins were being a royal pain, so I gave them a good ass whooping. Yes I am African and we don’t even play those games. 10 mins later they were back telling me how sorry they were and promising never to do it again. Then we just had a big hug with extra kisses. They then asked me to put lip for them (This is thier way of asking for lipstick). 20 mins later we were all just laughing and playing like the last 20 mins of our lives never even happened.
That is the beauty of having a child like mind. Children forgive so fast, Trust completely and love unconditionally.
We all hold on to a lot of anger because we have refused to forgive. Anger has the power to kill us from the inside out. A line from one of my favourite movies of all times (DIARY OF A MAD BLACK WOMAN) says that
Forgiveness is not for the other person but it is for you.
Over the years I have come to learn how true these words are.
All I am saying is that we should all learn to forgive completely like children do. The longer we hold on to anger and unforgiveness. It will slowly soak up all your joy and light. In the end you will be worse off than the person you did not forgive.
TIP – Try to forgive as fast as humanly possible, just so you can move on to better things like buying more shoes. LOL
